Boresnake - My review

I'd have to say this is one of the easiest ways to clean my guns. I've got the whole set up with Dewey rods, patches etc, but after getting the Boresnake about 2 months ago, I haven't been happier. It's fast, easy and the damn things work. I'm not associated with them in any way, but I'd hope that people on the forum that find something like this, that is inexpensive and does it's job would share that information with the rest of us.

Here's what I'm talking about.

I bought a .22 and .30 last year and have to agree with you.

I like them too. Got then in .22 and 30 caliber sizes. I wouldn't use them with solvents, though. To clen them I put them in the zipper pocket of my Carhart jacket and throw them in the washing machine. I read on THR forum that sometimes the cord breaks and leaves the brush part inside. That means you have to pull the other direction and reverse the bristle which isn't kosher, or try to get a rod past the main cord and push it thru. I don't use takedown rods anymore and the boresnake is great for in between clean ups and SHTF supply.
They'll never replace rods though. Dewey rods are better than Kleen-Bore.

I used one and became a believer. 1 squirt of breakfree twice thru and its a beautiful shine.

Bought 2 more the next week

I hear guys will spray some CLP on the end of the snake and it does 10 minutes of cleaning in one pull. I think this is one of those items that people need to have on their list of things to have....:coolbeer:

BTW has anyone washed theirs yet? I was thinking about just cleaning them in the sink and letting them air try, what have you guys done?

Boresnakes are all I use. Been using them for years, best gun cleaning product ever.

You think that breakfree works better than Brake Clean?

I have them for all the rifle calibers I own, although I wish they would make a model with plastic bristles. I have read of people using the wrong caliber and getting the thing badly jammed so don't make that mistake.

I have several boresnakes, and love them. One pull through a 12 ga. and it shines like a mirror.

That said, I bought one for a .17 HMR that I plink around the house with. First pull through broke the cord. Guess they have to make it too thin to fit through the bore. The .22 orks fine (in the .22), but don't try the .17. Get a rod.

Yes, hands down. Breakfree is what the military uses.

I only use boresnakes. There is another brand of boresnake called KnockOut 2 Pass Gun Rope Cleaner. It has a brush with a string you pull through and then a boresnake without any bristles on it.

Probably - really depends on how bad/what type of dirty you've got.

On my match pistols, if they just needed a light or regular cleaning, I used to use Break Free only.

On my practice guns, I would shoot them till they choked - about 400 to 500 rounds, spray them with carburator (sp?) cleaner and then do the break free thing .

Break free is great stuff -
